Deep Tech Lab welcomes researcher Mia Mesić for a research visit
From 31 May to 1 July 2026, Deep Tech Lab welcomed Mia Mesić from the Ruđer Bošković Institute (Croatia), reinforcing its commitment to international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and research mobility.
International collaboration is one of the cornerstones of scientific excellence. From 31 May to 1 July 2026, Deep Tech Lab welcomed Mia Mesić, a researcher from the Ruđer Bošković Institute (Croatia), for a research visit under the Horizon Europe WAVE project.
Mia holds a Master's degree in Chemistry and is currently a PhD student at the Ruđer Bošković Institute. Her research focuses on Materials Science, where she investigates new functional materials that can be processed into thin films. These materials exhibit unique electrical properties with potential applications in next-generation electronic devices and data storage technologies. Her work is particularly dedicated to developing more sustainable materials and understanding how their properties can be optimized for technological applications.
During her stay, Mia collaborated with researchers from Deep Tech Lab and CASCATACHUVA, exchanging knowledge and exploring new characterization techniques and innovative approaches to sustainable materials and energy-related applications. Her visit represents another step in strengthening scientific cooperation between both institutions and promoting international research mobility.

"It is my pleasure to visit the Deep Tech Lab (start-up CASCATACHUVA) as part of a secondment within the Horizon Europe WAVE project. My work focuses on battery recycling and the characterization of materials recovered from used batteries, known as black mass. The aim is to understand how these materials can be reused in new batteries, making battery production more sustainable and reducing waste. During my stay, I am also learning about additional material properties and characterization methods, including how certain materials interact with humidity from air and how this can be explored for energy-related applications. In some cases, these effects can even be linked to the generation of small amounts of electrical energy from environmental humidity, contributing to new ideas in sustainable energy harvesting. I hope this experience will further strengthen and inspire new collaborations between the Ruđer Bošković Institute and Deep Tech Lab / CASCATACHUVA." — Mia Mesić
