Scope
"ODAE – Open Dialog in Applied Engineering 2026" will bring together scientists, researchers and engineers from around the world to discuss the latest developments and emerging trends in engineering and their applications to address societal, environmental and healthcare challenges.
The conference is organised within the framework of the EWALD (101086250) and INNMEDSCAN (101086178) projects, and will provide a platform for presenting recent advances in applied engineering, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and strengthening collaboration between academia, research institutions and industry. The programme will also feature a series of round-table discussions dedicated to the EU-funded projects E-NOSE (101182748), HSAFE (101232577) and DETMED (101129879), showcasing their latest scientific achievements, technological developments and future perspectives.
The event will also host the official launch of the EU-funded SURVIVOR project, offering participants a first insight into its vision, objectives and expected impact. Further information about the project will be announced soon.
The conference addresses recent scientific advances, proven engineering practices and emerging technologies across a broad range of application areas. It aims to create a forum for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary dialogue, promote networking and knowledge exchange, reinforce the dissemination and sustainability of EU-funded research projects, and contribute to the education and training of young scientists and PhD students. EWALD (101086250):
EWALD addresses land degradation, a major environmental challenge that threatens the EU’s external borders. The project aims to develop a new early warning and response framework using multi-scale Earth Observation data to monitor and respond to land degradation risks.
DETMED (101129879):
To enhance cancer detection and surgical outcomes, DETMED is developing a compact, highly sensitive gamma probe based on advanced optical detector technologies. Supported by international collaboration, the project aims to improve tumour localisation during surgery with cutting-edge gamma detectors.
E-NOSE (101182748):
E-NOSE is advancing gas sensor technology through nanotechnology and multi-signal processing, aiming to build highly sensitive, fast-response "electronic nose" devices. Beyond sensor development, it proposes integrating these into mobile devices for real-time detection of threats like epidemics, fires, and terrorist activity, with outcomes expected to yield patents in materials and methods.
HSAFE (101232577):
The new HSAFE project develops an ultrasensitive biosensor using avalanche FET arrays and 2D materials for early lung and lymphoma cancer detection. An international consortium will address both technological and fundamental challenges to enable faster, more accurate, and cost-effective diagnosis.
INNMEDSCAN (101086178):
INNMEDSCAN’s goal is to create a next-generation hybrid PET/MRI scanner, a device in high demand in medical diagnostics. The project focuses on designing a novel semiconductor-based photodetector and building a working prototype, combining the strengths of both imaging technologies for improved diagnostic precision.

The Zafiro Palace Alcudia Hotel is located in Port d'Alcúdia, approximately 60 km from Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI). The journey takes around 45–60 minutes by car, depending on traffic conditions.

Participants travelling from non-EU countries are required to present a valid passport. Depending on their nationality, a visa may also be required.
