ODAE – “Open Dialog in Applied Engineering 2025” Held in Ölüdeniz, Turkey

ODAE – “Open Dialog in Applied Engineering” 2025, held from September 1–8, 2025, in Ölüdeniz, Türkiye, brought together researchers, scientists and engineers from around the world to discuss the most recent developments and trends in engineering and their application for societal, environmental and medical needs. Organized by Lusófona University / DeepTechLab, the yearly international event hosted the PhytoAPP Project Conference, featured workshops from projects including INNMEDSCAN, DETMED, E-NOSE, EWALD, and CATCHER, and marked the kickoff of the HSAFE Project.

PhytoAPP Project Conference

A central moment of this year’s ODAE was the Project Conference of PhytoAPP (101007642), as the project nears its conclusion in February 2026. Funded by the European Union and coordinated by Lusófona University, PhytoAPP tackles the low water solubility of phytochemicals using fullerene-based nanotechnology to create water-soluble phytocomplexes, with potential applications in preventing Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

The consortium, comprising experts in nanomaterials, physics, engineering, green chemistry, and medical science, showcased achievements in sustainable neuroprotection solutions. Partners include organizations from Portugal (Lusófona University and CascataChuva), Ukraine (NanoTechCenter), the UK (University of Oxford), Slovakia (Institute of Experimental Physics), Azerbaijan (National Nuclear Research Center), and Kazakhstan (Korky Ata Kyzylorda University).

Highlights and Workshops

ODAE 2025 featured presentations and discussions from leading research organizations, universities, and companies across Europe and beyond. Dedicated satellite workshops (including lectures and round tables) allowed project consortia to showcase project results, deepen collaboration and align future directions in the following EU-funded projects: INNMEDSCAN (101086178), DETMED (101129879), E-NOSE (101182748), EWALD (101086250), and CATCHER (101046307).

Embedding these projects within the ODAE 2025 framework offered a valuable opportunity to present and disseminate projects' results to an international and multidisciplinary audience.

Launch of the HSAFE Project

ODAE 2025 also hosted the Kick-off Meeting of the HSAFE Project (101232577), a new EU-funded initiative developing ultrasensitive biosensors based on avalanche FET arrays and 2D materials for early detection of lung and lymphoma cancers.

Led by Bursa Uludağ University (Turkey), HSAFE brings together partners from Turkey, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine, Portugal, Poland, and Azerbaijan – DeepTechLab integrates the consortium, representing Portugal. During the kickoff, consortium members introduced their organizations and roles, the coordinator presented the project roadmap, and the REA representative outlined action provisions and organizational requirements.

A Successful Gathering of Minds

Through keynote talks, workshops, project-specific sessions, and networking opportunities, ODAE 2025 created a vibrant environment for open exchange and multidisciplinary dialogue in the stunning setting of Ölüdeniz. The event reaffirmed the value of bringing together academia, research institutions, and industry to address global challenges through applied engineering.

As the conference concluded with a final dinner, participants celebrated not only the scientific milestones presented but also the enduring partnerships that will continue to shape the future of engineering, medicine, and sustainability.
